STOLLINGS, W.Va. - Mr. Edgar "Ed" Kirkendall, 80, of Stollings, was born May 7, 1928, at Pecks Mill, a son of the late Albert and Minnie Brumfield Kirkendall. He departed this life Tuesday, October 28, 2008, at CAMC General Division in Charleston.
Mr. Kirkendall was a retired coal miner, having worked several years for Ethel Chilton Coal Company and retiring from Westmoreland Coal Company. He was a member of the Stollings Christian Church and the UMWA, a former Logan County Constable and Process Server and member of the Logan County Executive Committee. He was a member of the Aracoma Lodge No. 99 AF&AM and the Beni-Kedem Shrine Temple and a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason. He loved serving the Lord, helping those in need, always being a Good Samaritan, and enjoyed the outdoors, especially his hunting dogs.
Survivors include his wife, Alma Spurlock Kirkendall; one daughter, Patricia (Johnny) Fry of Stollings; one son, Rick (Rachel) Kirkendall of South Charleston; two grandchildren, Angel Bryant of Stollings and Ricky Kirkendall of South Charleston; three great-grandchildren, John Wes Nagy, Dakota Andrew Bryant and Heidi Cheyenne Bryant; one brother, Floyd Kirkendall of Ranger, and one sister, Hazel Kirkendall of Ranger.
Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday, October 31, at the Stollings Christian Church with Pastors Elzie Burgess and Johnny Fry officiating. Burial will follow in the Forest Lawn Cemetery at Pecks Mill.
Pallbearers will be Sidney Kirkendoll, Eddie Kirkendoll, David Fry, John Price, Jeff Collins and Jerry Browning.
Honorary pallbearers will be Riley Joe Evans, Bobby Kirkendoll, Frankie Kirkendoll, Donald Adkins, Gene White, Mike Raines, Cecil Dingess and Art Kirkendoll.
Visitation will begin after noon Friday at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Stollings Christian Church at Stollings, WV or the American Cancer Society.
Evans Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Chapmanville is in charge of the arrangements.
