The Hatfield-McCoy Regional Recreation Authority Board of Directors finalized its new 2009 construction plan at the Oct. 24 board meeting. Executive Director Jeff Lusk and Deputy Director John Fekete told The Logan Banner that the development plan for next year is the most ambitious one so far for the authority.

It includes:

* Fountain Place Mall connector to City of Logan

* Twin Falls to the City of Mullens Connector

* Pinnacle Creek Single Track (Dirt Bike) Trails expansion

* Buffalo Mountain Single Track Trails expansion

* Wayne County Trail System development

* Lincoln County Trail System Development

* Indian Ridge-Pinnacle Creek Trail System connector

* Little Coal UTV Park development

* Mercer County Trail mapping

* Boone County Trail expansion

* Town of Keystone connector

One week prior to the board meeting, Deputy Director John Fekete explained that the proposed connector project to Chief Logan State Park had been completely revised.

Originally the Authority had looked at connecting the convention center to an access path through one of three routes, two of which were in the West Logan area. The path would not actually have been in the park, it would have went around the park on a ridge and dropped down to access the lodge and conference center.

"What we are going to do now is to put a connector to the Fountain Place Mall," Fekete said. "That would also be very close to the Chief Logan State Park convention center."

Jeff Lusk said that because the Little Coal River trail was unconnected to the rest of the trail he felt it might be good place to put a UTV or 4-wheel drive park and that the Authority could develop a new ATV/Dirt Bike trail nearby to replace it.

Lusk said connecting some of the existing trails is another major goal the Authority has.

Following updates from the last Field Operations and Safety Committee meeting the new 2009 development plan was approved.

Lusk said the mapping on the Lincoln County/Harts project was being worked on and that the Indian Ridge/Pinnacle Creek connector should be done by spring.

"The biggest priority we have is getting Trail Systems in Lincoln County and Wayne County up and open in 2009," Lusk said.
