and SWVCTC Dental Hygiene Program featured at FRN meeting

Sharon Bevins with FUTURES and Dr. Lisa Haddox-Heston presented information at the October Family Resource Network (FRN) meeting.

FUTURES, a nine bed, 90 day residential, non-medical, chemical detoxification unit for adult males 18 years and older, has been located in downtown Logan for the past four years. The FUTURES program services all of West Virginia. Bevins expressed that the goal of the program is to show a different way to live by treating the whole person as well as the illness. The waiting list is approximately six months long because the men start and finish as a group.

Bevins told participants that FUTURES is partnering with the Coal Mining Academy at Southern West Virginia Community and Technical College (SWVCTC).

"It helps these men get the training they need to get a good job and provide for themselves," Bevins said. "Their evening training doesn't interfere with daytime treatment."
