BRANCHLAND, WV - Mr. Ralph Edward Dotson, 63, of Branchland, beloved husband of Virgie M. Wiley Dotson, passed away Wednesday, December 17, 2008, at his home after a long illness.
Born March 31, 1945 in Pike County, Ky., he was a son of the late Bob and Vicie Sullivan Dotson. Also preceding him in death is a brother, George Dotson.
Ralph was a disabled coal miner and proud member of the UMWA. He enjoyed carpentry and woodworking, and very much enjoyed singing and playing with his grandchildren. He was always active, on the go and loved living life.
Additional survivors include three daughters, Jeryl Lynn Dotson of Kentucky, Tammy Renee Dotson of Fort Wayne, Ind., and Kimberly Dawn Dotson of Branchland; three sons, Robert L. Dotson of Huntington, Carl E. Dotson of Defiance, Ohio, and Bradley J. Dotson of Chicago, Ill.; one sister, Lois Hatfield of Kentucky; four brothers, Floyd, Lee, James and Bill Dotson, all of Kentucky; 11 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews and a special friend, Shawn Leonard, whom he thought of as his own son.
Services will be conducted at noon Sunday, December 21, at the Freeman Funeral Home at Chapmanville with Rev. Lee Dotson Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at the Adkins-Hager Cemetery on Ten Mile Road at Branchland.
Family members and friends will serve as pallbearers.
Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Freeman Funeral Home of Chapmanville is in charge of the arrangements.
