The Tigers brought home the Class AA Region 4 golf title on Monday at Big Bend Golf Course with a score of 238.
Poca High School was second with 242.
The top two teams from each region advance to play in the state tournament in Wheeling, Oct. 4-5.
Chapmanville was led by senior Kelli Garrett, who fired a 74. J.T. Lester had an 80 and Tyler Collins finished with an 84, while freshman Jacob Workman had a 94.
“This has been a great bunch of seniors,” CRHS coach Tommy Kirk said. “This is our fourth year in a row of advancing to the state tournament. Last year’s squad finished third in the eight-team Class AA field. Kelli played a great round of golf for us today. She has the skills to play college golf if she wants to play. Her 74 today was the low round in Class AA making her the medalist. J.T has been our leader all year. He’s been battling his swing the past couple weeks, but he stayed strong today with a solid score and he won’t back down.
“Tyler has been a pleasant surprise all year as he has made huge strides in his game. Jacob is freshman and maybe felt the nerves a little today, but he has been rock solid all season along with sophomore William Copley. This is a good group, not just good players, but really good kids.”
The Tigers are off to Wheeling for the practice round, set for Monday, Oct. 3. State tournament play is Tuesday and Wednesday, Oct. 4-5.
