HARTS, W.Va. — James Elwood Mauk, 78, of Harts, departed this life Wednesday, October 5, 2011, at Logan Regional Medical Center.

Born September 9, 1933, in Slagle, he was a son of the late Jake and Sarah Fields Mauk. Also preceding him in death was his wife, Rachel Mauk; one son, Jacob Mauk, and three brothers, William “Bill” Mauk, George Mauk, and Thomas Mauk.

Elwood was a retired mine foreman at Pittston Coal. He enjoyed gardening and fishing with his late wife.

Those left to cherish his memory include two sons, Andrew “Frank” Mauk and Robert (Brenda) Mauk, all of Chapmanville; three grandchildren, Christopher Mauk of Columbus, Ohio, Michele (Eddie) Bias of St. Albans, and Mary Beth (Earl Jason) Setser of Stollings; four great-grandchildren, Allyson and Jacob Bias of St. Albans and Holden and Lena Setser of Stollings; and special friends, George and Trish Kirby and George Bentley.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, October 8, at Freeman Funeral Home with Alfred Setser and Clifford Vance officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery at Pecks Mill.

Pallbearers will be Chris Mauk, Larry Mauk, Eddie Bias, Jason Setser, George Kirby, and George Bentley.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Freeman Funeral Home of Chapmanville is in charge of the arrangements.
