CHAPMANVILLE, W.Va. — Allen Meade Jr., 89, of Chapmanville, departed this life Thursday, October 6, 2011, at his residence.

Born June 9, 1922, in Myra, he was a son of the late Colonel Burton and Mary Catherine Swanson Meade. Also preceding him in death was his first wife, Erma Lee Salyers Meade; grandparents, Jesse Jackson “Jack” and Anthelia Pennington Meade; two daughters, Mary Lou and Katherine Sue Meade; one son, Ronnie Lee Meade; four brothers; five sisters; one son-in-law, Frankie “Hooper” Stover; one daughter-in-law, Susie Lane Meade; and his parents-in-law, Dewey James and Buryel Spradling Salyers.

Allen loved going to church, Jesus, volunteering for Logan Regional Medical Center Auxiliary, his coal mining heritage, his children, grandchildren, his family and his friends.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Barbara West Meade; two daughters, Brenda Stover and Sherry (Ted) Olzack; four step-daughters, Rita Toler, Lana (Ron) Tackett, June Riley and Jean (Isaac) Terry; four sons, Dewey Meade, Johnny (Carrie) Meade, Paul (Charlene) Meade and Kenny (Kim) Meade; four step-sons, Kenneth (Linda) Toler, Steve Toler, Timmy (Diane) Toler and Gary (Brenda) Carter; two sisters-in-law, Mary (Marvin) Conner and Stella West; one brother-in-law, Don (Sharon) West; 12 grandchildren, Allen (Shawna) Meade, Angie (Dennie) Lester, Frankie (Karen) Stover, Kelly (Steve) Bazzilla, Kimberly (Mike) Resler, James (Chasity) Meade, Candace Evans, Jamie Evans, Joey (Candace) Meade, Jeremy Meade, Kenneth Meade and Kendra Rae Meade; great-grandchildren, Tiffany, Janet, Jonathon, Jared, Alison, Bailey, Candace, Chole, Adam, Isabella and Isaiah Meade, Elijah Messer, Maggie Lester, Lauryn and Josh Bazzilla, Alyx Stover, Holly Abraham, John Evans, Carrie Davis, Ryan Meade and Carlee Jade Evans; two special nephews, Melvin and Philip Meade; and five special nieces.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, October 10, at Freeman Funeral Home with Joe Lane and George Leese officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Memory Gardens at Pecks Mill.

Pallbearers will be Allen Meade, Frankie Stover, Joey Meade, Jimmy Meade, Jeremy Meade, Jamie Evans, and Kenny Meade.  

Honorary pallbearers are Timmy Toler, Steve Toler, Gary Carter, and Kenneth Toler.

Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Freeman Funeral Home of Chapmanville is in charge of the arrangements.
