DUI crash in Mingo results in fatality

BORDERLAND — A Mingo County died Thursday morning as a result of injuries he received during a motor vehicle crash while he and three other men were riding on Corridor G, in Mingo County.

According to Mingo County Chief Deputy Sheriff James Smith, Joshua Bly Miller, 25, of Williamson, crashed the SVU he was operating on the four lane near Borderland, just beyond the border between Logan and Mingo counties. Smith says that Miller was driving under the influence when the crash occurred at 5:00 a.m. Thursday.

Police say no other vehicles were involved in the incident.

Passenger Adam York, 21, of Belfry, Ky., was pronounced dead at the crash site.

The third passenger, Zachary Smith, 21, of Belfry, was flown to St. Mary’s hospital in Huntington. He is currently in critical condition.

Miller and another passenger were uninjured in the crash, according to Deputy Smith.

Miller has been charged with DUI causing death, a felony. Following his arrest he was taken to the Southwestern Regional Jail, a Holden, but was later released on a $75,000 property bond.

Miller faces a possible sentence of two to 10 years in prison and/or a fine of not more than $3,000.
