PARKERSBURG — Fourteen Logan County athletes traveled to Parkersburg to compete in the Special Olympic WV's annual bowling tournament held Oct. 28-30, 2011.

The Logan County athletes were honored to assist with opening ceremonies on Friday night. Victoria Runyon gave the oath and Joseph Farmer helped a law enforcement officer carry the torch and light the flame. Frank Kinser and Melissa Sidney carried Special Olympic flags, while the rest of the county athletes carried in the three corporate sponsor banners for UPS, Wendy's, and Foodland.

For three days Logan County athletes bowled against athletes from other West Virginia counties and in some cases — against their own county — in singles and doubles. The competition was tough. Logan County athletes showed determination and good sportsmanship throughout the weekend. Like the oath says — "Let me win, but if I can not win, let me be brave in the attempt."

All athletes were treated to a "Halloween theme" victory dance on Saturday night at Parkersburg South High School. Logan County athletes also celebrated with a pizza/ birthday party for Melissa Sidney at the Pizza Hut in Parkersburg.
