The 68-year-old Man native has always worked out and kept in shape. On Tuesday, though, Blevins learned he was facing a potentially life-threatening health problem.
Man Town Clerk Mavis Toler said this morning that Blevins had to have a heart catheterization and was told by doctors that he had several heart blockages. He was in surgery this morning, Toler said.
“He went for a catheterization and they found out he was ready to have a heart attack and so he’s having five-bypass surgery today,” Toler said.
The popular Blevins is in his second term as the mayor of Man.
Toler said Blevins is hospitalized in Charleston Area Medical Center Memorial in Kanawha City.
“We didn’t know anything until after he had his catheterization,” Toler said. “He didn’t act like he was that sick to us, but we knew he wasn’t well. But, Jim doesn’t complain. We didn’t know it was this serious.”
Toler said the phones had been ringing off the hook at Man Town Hall yesterday and today with people concerned over the mayor’s health.
