CHIEF LOGAN STATE PARK — The University of Pikeville will hold a tennis match and clinic at the Chief Logan Rec Center later this month.

UPike and the Rec Center have entered into a partnership that will bring the university’s tennis team to Chief Logan State Park for matches and practices.

On January 29, the UPike Bears will host the University of Charleston Golden Eagles tennis team for an exhibition match starting at 3:15 at the Rec Center.

Prior to the start of the match, from 2 p.m. until 3:15, UPike will host a tennis clinic that will be free to kids ages 4-13.

Logan High School Tennis Coach and UC tennis standout Justin Turner is in charge of the event.

Recently, UPike President and former Kentucky Governor Paul Patton and other university officials visited the Rec Center to tour the facility.

Patton said he was very impressed with the Chief Logan Rec Center and looked forward to expanding the relationship between the university and the Rec Center.

Wally Thornhill, owner of the Thornhill Auto Group and president of the Chief Logan Rec Center board of directors, recently donated a car to the university to help with student recruitment.
