More than 1,300 WVU students awarded degrees in December

MORGANTOWN — A total of 1,301 students were granted degrees from West Virginia University in December.

WVU graduates in December came from 18 different countries and 34 different states. A total of 730 of those graduates were from West Virginia; 571 were from outside the state; 48 were international students.

Graduates and their families were recognized at a convocation ceremony on Dec. 11, 2011. Laurie Badzek, a professor and director of the Appalachian Quality of Life Institute in the WVU School of Nursing at the Robert C. Byrd Health Sciences Center, was the keynote speaker of the event.

Local students receiving degrees was Jeremy Sheppard of Chapmanville; William Craddock of Turtle Creek; Corey May of Danville; Olivia Goad of Delbarton, and Jason Shrewsbury of Pineville.
