HUDDLESTON, Va. — Michael Earl “Poss” Ellis, 47, of Huddleston, Va., formerly of Bruno, passed away Saturday, February 18, 2012, at his residence following a courageous battle with cancer.

Born February 4, 1965, at Man, he was a son of the late Harmon Perry and Janice Marie Glandon Ellis. Also preceding him in death were brothers, Kager, Charles, Darrell, Zenneth, Ronald, Donzel, Levon, John “John Boy”, Ricky Edward and Mathias “Buddy” Ellis, and two sisters, Shirley Gill and Opal Blankenship.

Poss, as he was known to many, was a loving son, brother, uncle, nephew and friend. He was a kind and caring person with a heart of gold and loved animals and kids. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. He was employed as a construction worker and was a born-again Christian of the Church of God faith.

Survivors include five sisters, Barbara (Freddy) Newman of Hurricane, Wanda (Larry) Sites of Petersburg, Kaye (Mike) Roberts of Chapmanville, Sandra (Michael “Cud”) Bailey of Accoville, and Sharon (Wade) Hatfield of Smith Mountain, Va.; five brothers, Danny Ellis of Newark, Ohio, Harold (Lynn) Ellis of Accoville, Larry (Martha) Ellis of Largo, Fla., Jack (Sue) Ellis of Newark, Ohio, and Harmon “Bubby” (Debbie) Ellis Jr. of Elk Creek of Emmett; a very special friend, Donna Brown of Smith Mountain; two sisters-in-law, Edna May Ellis and Shelby Ellis, both of Bruno, and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, February 23, at the Bruno Church of God with Rev. Roger Frye and Rev. Bill Cantrell officiating. Burial will follow in the Browning and Grimmett Cemetery at Bruno.

Pallbearers will be Donald, Nicholes, Eugene and David Ellis, Travis Cyrus and Bernard Blankenship.

Honorary pallbearers will be Kenny Smith, Bill Gibson, Ricky Roach and Roger “Jughead” Wisecup.

Visitation will be from 6-10 p.m. Wednesday at the church.

Our family was so saddened by the news that Possum had passed away. Now you can rest assured that he is out of pain and living again in a brand new body. Praise the Lord. Take confort in knowing he has left behind a multitude of friends who share in your grief and never fear reaching out to them and lift up your own spirit through Christ.
