The Logan High School boys’ basketball team is just one win away from the Class AAA Region 4 Section 2 championship game and the upcoming regional tourney.

Top seed Logan (14-8) is scheduled to play homestanding Cabell Midland (5-18) in one of tonight’s Class AAA sectional semifinals at Cabell Midland High School in Barboursville.

Tipoff is set for 8 p.m.

Cabell Midland advanced with Monday night’s 56-46 win over Lincoln County (10-13) in the opening round.

The other semifinal pits second-seeded Huntington (12-10) against No. 3 seed Spring Valley (7-16).

The winners move on to play in Friday night’s sectional championship game at 7:30 p.m., also at Cabell Midland.

The Knights were led by Dustin Scarberry, who netted 23 points on Monday night against Lincoln County.

Cabell Midland trailed 41-38 after three but outscored the Panthers 20-5 in the fourth to notch the win.

The Wildcats beat Cabell Midland, 61-53, on Dec. 28 on the road in the only meeting between the two schools this season.

Logan closed out the regular season last Thursday with a 71-51 win at Capital to snap a five-game losing streak.

A victory by Logan would put the Wildcats in Friday’s sectional finals against either Huntington or Spring Valley. Win or lose, the Wildcats would automatically get a berth in the 3A regional tournament.

The Wildcats lost to Huntington 62-49 on Feb. 13 at home in the only meeting this year with the Highlanders. Spring Valley and Logan did not meet.

Logan is led by 6-foot-2 senior guard Stevie Browning, who averages 25.2 points a game. Sophomore guard Da’jon Streeter has also had a fine season in his first year with the Wildcats and is averaging 15.6 points per game. Senior forward Keaton Johnson checks in at 11.8 points per contest.

In Region 4 Section 1, Nitro (11-11) plays No. 4-ranked South Charleston (18-4) tonight at 7:30 at the South Charleston Community Center. In the other semifinal Winfield (14-8) takes on homestanding Hurricane (13-9) in a 7:30 p.m. tip.

The Region 4 Section 2 champion plays the Region 4 Section 1 runner-up in the regional co-championship game next week, while the Region 4 Section 1 winner hosts the Region 4 Section 2 runner-up for the right to play in the Class AAA state tournament.

Nitro advanced with a 58-49 win over St. Albans on Monday night.
