DINGESS, W.Va. — Connell Ray Marcum, 68, of Dingess, joined his family in heaven Monday, March 19, 2012, at Logan Regional Medical Center.

Born November 19, 1943, in Oceana, he was a son of the late Shirley M. Marcum Starr and Lewis Marcum. Also preceding him in death was a sister, Eleanor (Paul) Damron.

Mr. Marcum was a former coal miner and retired from Goshen Die Cutting Inc.

Those left to cherish his memory include his children, Connell Ray “Red” Marcum Jr., Lewis Benny Marcum and Roy Linsey “Squirt” Marcum, all of Logan, Melissa Elaine Marcum (Chris Ellis) of Dingess; special daughter- in-law Denise Dempsey; grandchildren, Jeffery Sean Marcum, Cassi Dillon, Shaelyn Marcum, Christopher Ellis, Kyle Ellis, Lewis Marcum Jr., Paul Myers and Tesia Ellis; brothers and sisters, Donald (Gay) Marcum and Christine (Wayne) Toppings, both of West Virginia, Jerry Marcum of Indiana, Dennis (Vanessa) Marcum of North Carolina, Darrell (Areellie) Marcum and Ronnie (Linda) Starr, both of Illinois, Charlene (Randy) Lieving of Ohio, and Virgil (Sandy) Starr of Kentucky; his former wife, Trish Crane; four sisters-in-law; three brothers-in-law, and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

His body has been cremated. Memorial services will be held from 6-8 p.m. Friday at James Funeral Home with Rev. Chris Ellis officiating. His cremains will be buried in the Varney Branch Road Cemetery.
