CRAWLEY CREEK — A single-vehicle crash on Thursday afternoon has claimed the life of a Logan County man.

Douglass Kinder, 55, from Main Smokehouse Road, was found dead in his car following a crash into Crawley Creek by Logan County Sheriff’s deputies, according to a report issued by Chief Deputy Sonya M. Dingess Porter.

The report said the Logan County Sheriff’s Department was dispatched by Logan County 911 to a motor vehicle crash on County Route 3 at Crawley Creek, near Pitt Branch Road, around 1:15 p.m.

While en route, the dispatchers told the deputies that there was a body inside the vehicle, the report said.

When Cpl. B.C. Cobb and Cpl. F.N. Ferrell arrived on the scene, they found a 1991 Buick Regal on its top in the creek. The deputies then found Kinder, the report said.

According to the report, the deputies’ investigation of the crash found that Kinder lost control of his car, cross the center line, then ran off the road to the left and overturning his vehicle and it came to rest on its top in the creek.

Members of the Chapmanville Volunteer Fire Department, the Logan Emergency Ambulance Service Authority and Premium Towing worked together to extricate Kinder from the car.

The crash is still under investigation by Cpl. B.D. Cobb.
