A local woman trying to flag down a truck was hit and killed on Three Mile Curve on Wednesday morning.

Reports said Kathy Gibson, 61, of Niebert, was walking to get gasoline for the car in which she was riding. The car had reportedly ran out of gas and Gibson walked out into the road while trying to flag down a truck, but was instead struck and killed by the truck.

The report said that no charges will be filed against the driver of the truck because the situation was beyond his control.

Reports said the police reports showed there was no way the driver could have seen the woman in enough time to stop when she stepped out into the road.

Traffic was halted in both lanes of State Route 10 for more than an hour as emergency crews worked at the scene.

Reportedly, West Virginia State Police Trooper B.D. Lowe handled the investigation.

No additional information was available as of press time.
