CHAPMANVILLE — The Point Pleasant High School softball team came to Chapmanville Regional and scored the first run in its game against the Lady Tigers on Thursday night.

No worry.

The Class AA No. 3-ranked Lady Tigers then roared back, plating nine unanswered runs to beat the No. 5-rated Lady Knights 9-1 at the Chapmanville Regional High School softball field.

Chapmanville improved to 13-3 on the season with the win.

Senior Allison Evans pitched the complete game win for Chapmanville, allowing just one run and four hits while striking out five and walking none. Evans helped her own cause at the plate as she was 3-for-4 with a triple and a double.

Heading into the stretch drive of the regular season it was a quality win by the Lady Tigers against a quality Cardinal Conference team.

“Our defense looked super,” veteran Chapmanville coach Ronnie Ooten said. “We let them go up 1-0 but we hit the ball and we looked pretty good. We moved the runners around and I was pleased with the way that we played.”

Senior catcher Alyssa Bailey also had a good night at the plate as she was 2-for-4. Savanna Vance was 2-for-3.

Hanna Wooten added a double and Jenna Evans had a single for Chapmanville.

The Lady Tigers are scheduled to return to the diamond on Friday night at Class AA sectional foe Mingo Central. Game time is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Chapmanville routed the Miners 16-0 in three innings in the previous meeting between the two teams earlier in the season at CRHS.

Chapmanville then heads back to the Best of the Best Tournament on Saturday at Buffalo with a 10:30 a.m. contest against Class AA sectional rival and league foe Scott. The Lady Tigers beat Shady Spring and Sissonville on Thursday in tourney action.

Next week, the Lady Tigers are slated to play at Tolsia on Wednesday and at Scott on Thursday before hosting Sissonville on Friday, April 20.

Chapmanville then has five scheduled games left in the regular season — April 21 at home against Wayne, April 23 at home against county rival Logan, April 24 at Herbert Hoover, April 25 at home against Lincoln County and April 26 at Poca in the finale.

The Logan game will also be Senior Night for the Lady Tigers.

Chapmanville then is set to host the Class AA sectional tourney the week of April 30. This year’s sectional is a three-team field with Mingo Central joining Scott and the Lady Tigers.

Chapmanville had played a two-team sectional with Scott since 2009 after Logan moved back up to Class AAA status.

The Lady Tigers have a goal of making it back to the Class AA state tournament. Last year, Chapmanville went a disappointing 1-2 at Vienna after capturing state championships in 2007, 2009 and 2010.
