Editor,

Abraham Lincoln was a republican, but the Republican Party of today has moved so far to the right that it can no longer be the same party as that to which Honest Abe belonged. It’s as though republicans were purposely given that name so that in the fullness of time, their very name would expose their true nature. Republicans have become exactly what their name implies; born again publicans with a nature to take from the poor and give to the rich.

Good people of America, what delusion must possess you that you would give these new republicans the power to rule over you when their demonstrated intent is diametrically opposed to your best interests?

You draw Social Security and your very life depends on Medicare. Yet, you support the republicans who signed onto the Ryan Plan that would end Medicare as it now exists, cut social services and social programs, and give more tax cuts to the rich.

You must work hard for a living. Yet, you support the republicans who have proved that they will dismantle unions, reduce wages, and severely limit workers’ rights. They have even clearly expressed their intent to repeal the Minimum Wage Law and to balance tax cuts to the rich by raising taxes on lower incomes.

You are women who are still fighting for an equal voice in this world. Yet, you support the republicans who have demonstrated their intent to silence you. You’ve come a long way baby, but if crude and vicious republicans like Rush Limbaugh get their way, you might be forced all the way back to the time when women were nothing more than chattel.

Contrary to the republicans, it is the rich who have always held the monopoly on a sense of entitlement. The republicans are working toward creating a society in which there are only two classes of people; royalty as bestowed by money, and serfs as defined by how little money the royalty let trickle down.

People, if you are supporting the republicans, wake up to the reality of your self-destructive and counterproductive behavior.

And you, born-again Christians, who has bewitched you that you should follow after these born again publicans who pervert the gospel of Christ to their own ends through fear, hate, greed, lies, and hypocrisy?

Two thousand years ago, the publicans were tax collectors who were notorious for their greed. Because the love of money is the root of all evil, publicans became synonymous with sinners. To be saved, publicans were required to give up their greed. When publicans came to John the Baptist to be baptized they asked, “Master, what shall we do?” John the Baptist replied, “Exact no more than that which is appointed you.” (Luke 3:12-13)

Christians, what blasphemous thing must these new republicans do to open your eyes to their monumental greed and prove that their love of money is greater than their love of God and country?

What if the republicans gave a huge tax cut to the rich, and then, fully demonstrated their willingness to let the country suffer an economic disaster rather than give those tax cuts up?

What if the republicans gave more power to money by declaring, “corporations are people too, my friend”, or conspired to increase their own political power by taking the right to vote away from millions of people who were unlikely to vote for them, or create a cable news network that is unfair, unbalanced, and pro-republican to give the disciples of money a soapbox and street corner from which to proselytize their greed?

What if the republicans are so Machiavellian that they confess to a half-truth that’s bad in order to hide the whole truth that’s much worse? The republicans have been blocking everything President Obama has tried to do to make the economy stronger, or if they don’t block it, they demand outrageous concessions for the rich before they let anything pass. The half-truth that the republicans’ number one priority is to make Obama a one-term President explains their obstruction, but the whole truth explains their obstruction better.

The whole truth is that the republicans have no vested interest in a strong economy for all. For more than a decade, the rich have been exacting near record profits from this bad economy that republican policy created, so the republicans in Congress have no motivation to change anything. Millions of people have lost their jobs, lost their homes, and lost their ability to feed their families. Causing millions of people to suffer for the sake of partisan politics is despicable of itself, but causing them to suffer for the sake of filthy lucre is a crime, against both God and country.

Every one of these “what ifs” is true and has already happened, and each one is a blasphemy because it was committed in the service of a lesser god called money.

Our country can return to greatness and prosperity for all, but only if the republicans will heed the instruction of John the Baptist and go back to exacting only that which is their fair and honest share.

You’re not-allowed to judge the republicans, but you’re certainly expected to know the republicans by their works, and deal with them accordingly. Christians, if you’re following after the born again publicans, wake up and smell the brimstone.

Sincerely,

Russell Marcum

Mr. Marcum, wonderfully said. You have stated what a whole lot of us also believe. Thank you.

You can always tell when you put the truth out there, republicans don't like it.

If George W. Bush didn't ruin this country then we are fine. We are made of stronger stuff than that.

President Obama is not a socialist and the United States of America is not a socialist country. That is a dirty trick by republicans, just like his birth certificate, to discredit the man. The United States, like many other countries, helps it's own. And why shouldn't we! Charity begins at home as the saying goes. If we can give foreign aid to other countries, what kind of country would we be if we didn't help our own.

Mr. Marcum said nothing about expecting services from the government, nor did he say anything about dumping grandma in the street. Those are your words. Maybe Harry Reid has Paul Ryans hands tied because the things Ryan is proposing would hurt people instead of helping them. Ever think of that? No that would be giving Mr. Reid the benefit of the doubt and you don't do that.

At one point George W. Bush was considered the worst president by 58% of the people polled. He also has to be the most arrogant president thus far.

Republicans are trying to make this country a two class country, just like England was and still is to a great degree. The haves and the have nots. You can ignore it all you want but it is a reality. That is their intent.

If you really think that the republicans care about you and your welfare you are greatly deceived. If the republicans have their way there will be no social securtiy, medicare, nor medicaid. And, they are trying to dismantle unions. What kind of job security would people have then? How is that helping people? It isn't!

Dr. PepperPhd, the only reason you are for Mitt Romney is because he and you are both Mormon. He wasn't all that great as a governor. His health care plan didn't work.

The Ryan Plan does not dump Grandma in the street. Social Security and Medicare will need to be reformed if they are going to be around for future generations. Paul Ryan and the Republicans are addressing that issue, but the do nothing Senate Leader, Harry Reid, has their hands tied.

If we are going to be competitive in the future, corporate taxes will need to come down to put us on an even keel with other global economies. We have some of the highest corporate taxes in the world (it is either number 1 or 2.)

President Obama is the worst president in history. Although he chided others for running up the debt, he alone has amassed more debt for future generations of Americans to pay than any other president in history.

Let me guess…you don’t work and pay taxes…do you? It is easy to demand services when you do nothing to deserve them. This is the basis of the Democrat Party. I am frankly tired of paying taxes and having my money getting spent on absolute nonsense. The best government we could have is a small government. Obama is a socialist. If the masses choose him again, our country will sink into obscurity like the Roman Empire. Too much Bread and Circuses ruined their empire; its debauchery is not different than we see in our own country.

I am ashamed of President Obama for bowing to despots in the Middle East and insulting our friends: sending the bust of Churchill back to the UK and spitting in the face of Israel are prime examples.

I hope people realize if this country is to remain the nation it is (land of the free and home of the brave), we most definitely need to get out and vote for Mitt Romney over Obama. We need to stop this megalomaniac (Obama) in November! I ask all conservatives and those who love America to please vote while there is still something to vote for.

Mr. Marcum,

Your take on the State of The Nation, is right on the mark! This election is very important, we must send a clear message to the Republicans that what they want for this country is not good for this country. The low imformation voters, must become better educated if they do, then they will vote in their best interest. They will vote for the Democrats. Thanks for stanting up for what is right.
