MAN — The Man High School baseball team now has a two-game winning streak after notching a pair of wins.

Man won 13-0 at Class AAA Lincoln County on Thursday night and then returned home to defeat the Class A No. 3-ranked Valley Fayette Greyhounds, 11-3, on Friday night.

Man standout Jordan Simspon picked up the win on the mound on Friday, pitching five innnings and giving up three runs on five hits and striking out 10 Hounds with just one walk.

“Jordan threw well,” Man coach Larry Vance said. “He hit his spots. He got a little tired in the fifth inning. We hit the ball better. We have a chance to go 5-1 this week if we beat Buffalo on Saturday. Our defense was solid.”

The No. 9-ranked Billies jumped on Valley starter Arik McGinnis thanks to several Greyhound errors.

Nick Carter and J.T. Twardy both reached base on error to get things started. Carter got on base on error by the right fielder while Twardy got on by an error on the second baseman.

Freshman Braden Griffin then struck out.

Simpson then rapped out an RBI single to give Man 1-0 lead.

Drew Merritt reached on Valley’s third error of the frame to make it 2-0.

Jacob Riggins then delivered a double, scoring two runs to give MHS a 4-0 advantage.

Cayce Mullins then got an RBI single to give Man the early 5-0 advantage.

Man built its lead to 9-0 in the bottom of the third inning of play, scoring four more runs.

Simpson led off with a double. Merritt then singled to put runners on second and third. Riggins then got two more RBI’s with a single to give the Billies a 7-0 lead. Thomas Blair then had an RBI single, scoring Riggins to make it 8-0. Mullins followed with an RBI single to give Man a commanding 9-0 lead.

Valley scored all of its runs in the fifth inning as the Greyhounds sent nine batters to the plate and scored three runs to make it 9-3. Tyler Chaffins had an RBI in the frame.

Man got back two of the three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning of Valley releiver Joe Ekert.

Twardy got a one out single. Simpson then had an RBI single to score Twardy to make it 10-3. Valley attemped to gun down Simpson at second but the ball got by and Simpson was able to leg it out all the way home to make it 11-3.

Freshman Braden Griffin then came in to relieve Simpson in the seventh inning. He allowed two hits but then got Cody Winter to fly out. Griffin then struck out Ekert and Kevon Clodfelter to end the game.

Man had 11 runs on 11 hits and committed two errors while Valley had 3 runs on 8 hits and committed 6 errors.

Man was led at the plate by Jacob Riggins, who was 2-for-3 with a double and four RBI. Simpson was 3-for-4 with a double an a run knocked in. Merritt went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Twardy, Blair and Shane Browning all had hits.

Man was scheduled to host Buffalo on Saturday.

Man 12, Lincoln County 3

The Hillbillies plated nine runs over the final three innings to pull away from the Lincoln County Panthers for a 12-3 victory on Thursday night in Hamlin.

Man plated one run in the second, two in third and fifth innings, four more in the sixth and three in the seventh.

Jacob Riggins tossed six strong innings allowing two runs on five hits while striking out seven and walking six. He also helped his own cause at the plate with a pair of hits and drove in two runs for the Class A No. 9 Hillbillies.

Shane Browning added a pair of hits and drove in three runs while J.T. Twardy added two hits. Thomas Blair, Nick Carter, Braden Griffin and Jordan Simpson each had one hit and drove in a run for Man.

Lincoln County got two hits from Grant Bates while Austin Cooper produced a run scoring single for the Panthers.
