W.Va. man electrocuted, copper theft suspected

BANDYTOWN (AP) — Boone County police are investigating the death of a man who was electrocuted on a mine property.

Sheriff Rodney Miller says police believe 37-year-old Herbert Ray Price Jr. of Gordon was trying to steal copper wire from a utility pole when he was killed.

Gordon’s body was found early Tuesday lying on a hillside near the pole at the Talon Loadout Facility near Bandytown.

Miller says in a news release that police believe another person may have been involved in the attempted theft.

State Office of Miner’s Health Safety and Training spokeswoman Leslie Fitzwater says the state agency and the federal Mine Health and Safety Administration also are investigating.
