CHAPMANVILLE — The Logan Shrine Club will be hosting their 14th annual golf tourney at the Logan Country Club on May 11.

This year’s tourney will honor two very special members of the club who passed away this past year.

“We wanted to dedicate this year’s tournament to Jim Guy and Joe Gray,” said President Roger Porter. “They were both exceptional gentlemen and their loss was a great blow, not only to our club, but to our community. This will be our way of saying ‘hey, we miss you guys, but we will never forget you’ to their many friends and family throughout the area.”

The golf tourney is a major fundraiser for the club and sponsorships are available for $50. Fees for individual players are set at $100 and for a team of four members at $400. For those who would like to show up but not play, lunch will be available at the country club for $25.

Porter said that many area coal mines and other businesses often will field a team consisting of employees and family members as their way of showing thanks to the Shriners.

“Like anybody else, we have bills and responsibilities,” Porter said. “And we are fortunate that many people and businesses around here help us out when we do fundraising activities, which makes it possible for us to do what we do to help children and our community. We could not do what we do to help others were it not for the support the community and many businesses show for us.”
