Former Logan High School pitcher Corey Lakatos has set a new record for saves in a season at the University of Charleston.

Lakatos, a sophomore right-hander, has a school-record seven saves this season for UC, which is 25-21 overall and 17-14 in the WVIAC.

Lakatos is 2-0 this season with a 4.76 ERA. He’s thrown 11.1 innings this spring and has four strikeouts and eight issued walks. Lakatos has yielded six earned runs and 12 hits.

Lakatos got his seventh save of the season last week with UC’s 3-1 victory at Fairmont in the second game of a league doubleheader. Lakatos walked the bases loaded but then got a flyout to end the game.

On Thursday night, Lakatos notched his eighth save of the spring as Charleston won 3-1 over Wheeling Jesuit.

Other former Logan County players are also on the UC roster.

Ross Easterling (Logan), a junior shortstop, is hitting .297 with one homer, 18 RBI, three doubles and a triple.

Timmy Rein, another former Logan High School player and a sophomore third baseman for the Golden Eagles, is batting .296 this season with 12 RBI and two doubles in 22 games played.

Three former Chapmanville Regional High School players (Jordan Kirk, Dylan Saunders and Josh Easterling) are currently freshmen on the team. Kirk is hitting .208 in 11 games.
