Rain was the winner on Tuesday night as all sectional baseball tournament games involving Logan, Chapmanville and Man were postponed.
Logan (20-5), ranked No. 8 in Class AAA, was scheduled to host South Charleston on Tuesday night at Logan High School’s Roger Gertz Field but the game was rained out and moved to Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.
The Wildcats opened the double-elimination sectional tourney with Monday’s 6-2 win at George Washington. Logan pitchers Z. Minnick and Cody Frye combined to throw a no-hitter. The two pitchers, however, combined to walk eight batters and hit another.
Fortunately, Logan’s defense was able to bail them out as the Wildcats turned four double plays.
Logan was led at the plate by Matthew Greene, who was 3-for-4. The Wildcats are searching for their 13th straight sectional crown dating back to 2000.
The Class AAA sectionals would then continue on Thursday as George Washington is set to play South Charleston in a possible elimination game.
The finals could then return to Logan on Friday night.
In the Class AA sectional tourney at Chapmanville, the No. 6-ranked Tigers (17-10) were scheduled to host Mingo Central (10-15) on Tuesday night but the game was also rained out.
Mingo Central opened the tourney on Monday with a 7-5 loss to Scott.
The Chapmanville-Mingo Central game has been rescheduled for Wednesday at 6 p.m. at Chapmanville’s Ted Ellis Field.
The Tigers would then play rival Scott on Thursday night with the finals being played on Friday.
Chapmanville has played the Miners once this season, winning 19-3 over Mingo Central at home early in the season.
In the Class A sectional tourney, Tuesday’s game between homestanding Man (17-11) and Van (5-20) was washed out as well. The game has been rescheduled for Wednesday at 6 p.m. at Man.
The sectional tourney began on Monday as Charleston Catholic won 12-1 over Van. The Class A No. 2-ranked Irish stand at 25-6 on the season. Man is the No. 8-ranked team in the state.
Man would then travel to Charleston Catholic on Thursday and the two teams left would meet on Friday night in the finals.
