CHAPMANVILLE — A blown brake light led to the felony drug arrest of a Detroit woman.

Chapmanville Police Officer N.D. Tucker made a traffic stop early Friday morning around 4 a.m. on Crawley Creek Road because a 1985 Chevrolet being driven by Cyrstal Lynn Vannorstrand, 42, of Detroit, had a brake light out and window tint that was too dark.

Upon contact with Vannorstrand, Tucker stated in the criminal complaint that “Mrs. Vannorstrand was very nervous and dropping papers.”

Tucker stated in the report that he noticed several prescription pill bottles in Vannorstrand’s purse, which was sitting in her lap. Some of the bottles had labels and some were unmarked. Tucker said that due to his experience and visual observation, the pills in the unmarked bottles were believed to be controlled substances.

The report said Tucker received verbal and written consent to search Vannorstrand’s vehicle and purse and found that the 689 pills were all controlled substances.

According to the complaint, the pills were counted and identified as one large unmarked bottled containing 101 Vicodin; one large bottle, unlabeled, containing 90 Vicodin; One large green bottle, unmarked, containing 79 Vicodin; one large bottle, unlabeled, containing 90 Vicodin; a white bottle marked “Hydrocodone Bitartrate and Acetaminophen”, not a prescription, containing 100 Hydrocodone pills; one green prescription bottle filled on 5-1-12 for 90 Vicodin, and only contained nine; a prescription bottle filled on 4-6-12 for 60 Hydrocodone generic for Dilaudid, only contained 20; a prescription bottle containing 20 Fioricet filled for 50 on 5-1-12, and 60 Xanax in a prescription bottle for Bobby Duncan filled for 60 on 5-1-12.” The pills had a street value of more than $5,000.

The complaint states that Vannorstrand told the officers that she and her boyfriend were on their way to a friend’s house on Crawley to sell the drugs.

Vannorstrand is charged with possession with intent to deliver and was arraigned before Logan County Magistrate Dwight Williamson who set bail at $125,000. She was lodged in the Southwestern Regional Jail at Holden.

If convicted, Vannorstrand faces 1-15 years in jail and up to $25,000 fine.

A report by Tucker said the investigation is ongoing and more arrests are expected.
