A local man was arrested over the weekend for having powerful prescription pain pills following a traffic stop and a local woman was arrested in possession of what was believed to be morphine following an unrelated traffic stop.

Ronald Gene Perry, 32, of Stollings, was arrested in Logan County by West Virginia State Police Trooper M.L. Vance for possession of a controlled substance and giving false information to police on Jan. 24. He was booked at the Southwestern Regional Jail at Holden at 1 a.m. on $3,500 bond.

According to police reports, on Jan. 23, state police troopers Vance, B.E. Guthrie and P.J. Dick were on patrol when a vehicle was stopped for a defective muffler. Perry was a passenger in the vehicle, a 1997 Ford, which was driven by his girlfriend, the police report said.

"Upon investigation, this officer noticed that (the) accused was not wearing a safety belt," the report states. "Both driver and accused were asked if they had any drugs or weapons in the above vehicle or on their persons, in which both replied 'no.'. This officer did an exterior vehicle sniff with K-9, (which) indicated on the passenger’s side of the above vehicle. Upon investigation and a search, these officers found one oxy(contin) 80 and five and one half lortabs in a key chain contained in the right front pants pocket of the accused. The accused was arrested and charged with the above offenses.

Trista Helena McNeely, 25, of Switzer, was arrested by WVSP troopers B.E. Guthrie and M.L. Vance for possession of a controlled substance, driving on a suspended license, giving false information to an officer, defective equipment and improper use of a signal on Jan. 23.

According to police reports, McNeely allegedly was driving a 1995 Honda Civic in the Mt. Gay area when she was pulled over for having a defective registration light.

"Upon investigation of the stop, the accused failed to produce a signal when turning off of the roadway," the report states. "Upon further investigation, the accused could not produce a driver's license. ...A driver's license check (was ran) on the accused through the Department of Motor Vehicles. According to DMV files, accused's driver's license had been lawfully suspended and/or revoked for unpaid citations and mandatory insurance. Upon further investigation this officer did an exterior vehicle sniff with a K-9 on said vehicle where K-9 gave a positive indication near the driver's door. Before search, this officer asked were their any illegal drugs or paraphernalia or anything that would poke or stick to the inside of the vehicle or on their person, and the accused replied 'no.' Upon search this officer found inside (the) accused's purse a needle and syringe containing a clear liquid substance believed to be liquid morphine. The accused was arrested and charged with the above offenses."

She was booked at the regional jail at 8:40 p.m.
