UNEEDA (AP) — A veteran mechanic is dead after a three-story fall at an Alpha Natural Resources coal processing plant in southern West Virginia.

The state Office of Miners Health, Safety and Training says 57-year-old Clyde Dolin of Danville died at Liberty Processing near Uneeda in Boone County on Thursday afternoon.

Dolin was pronounced dead at Boone Memorial Hospital.

Spokeswoman Leslie Fitzwater says he had 39 years mining experience, including 13 at the Uneeda prep plant.

Virginia-based Alpha’s Independence Coal Co. issued a statement on Dolin’s death, calling him “a bit of an institution” and expressing sadness at his death. He left a wife and two children.

The federal Mine Safety and Health Administration will also investigate.
