The Annual Kiwanis Club of Logan Pancake Day will be returning soon.

Members of the Kiwanis Club of Logan discussed plans for their annual fundraiser at their recent Thursday meeting. President Diana Barnett said the club had several possible dates it could utilize the cafeteria at Logan Middle School for the traditional event, including possibly in mid- March.

At one point, members discussed having the event closer to St. Patrick’s Day and making green pancakes as a marketing gimmick.

Pancake Day is currently set for March 14 at Logan Middle School.

Darren Akers said Roger Ramey will have to show some members how to set up the grill and other equipment for the event. Ramey, who is the unofficial chef of the club due to his legendary culinary skills will not be able to supervise this years Pancake Day due to a work-related scheduling problem.

Ramey discussed the possibility of making some changes to the format of Pancake Day and following discussion the club decided to host a second Pancake later this year under the new format.

The club will be seeking out sponsors to assist with the expenses of the annual event as it costs around $1,500 to carry out Pancake Day.

Last week, member Jim Guy brought up the possibility of doing a Bicycle Safety Rodeo in conjunction with Pancake Day, but due to the short amount of time and the sheer amount of work that would be needed, members agreed to have the Bicycle Safety Rodeo at a later date.

“To do that and to do it with Pancake Day, we would have to move it back to May,” noted Darren Akers. “So we need to look at doing that as a separate event, maybe later in the spring.”

Members discussed having the Bicycle Safety Rodeo Day at the Fountain Place Plaza on April 25. Darren Akers said he would ask West Logan Police Chief Robert Ward to assist in the event by providing security and doing fingerprinting for kids.

Joel McNeely said he would contact Logan Fire Chief Scotty Beckett about the event and Diana Barnett said members should be talking to potential sponsors about donating prizes. Barnett noted that she recently won a live radio simulcast from WVOW and would look into having it take place at the Bicycle Safety Rodeo.

The Kiwanis Club of Logan meets every Thursday at Gatti’s Pizza Restaurant next to the Fountain Place Cinema 8 Theater. On the first and last Thursdays of the month, the club meets at 5:30 p.m. during the middle of the month Thursdays the club meets at noon. Those interested in getting involved with Kiwanis or becoming members are urged to attend a meeting.
