MAYNARD

CATLETTSBURG, Ky. — Gwendolyn Jean Maynard, 89, of Catlettsburg, Ky., passed peacefully Saturday May 26, 2012, at the Hospice Care Center in Ashland, Ky.

Born January 17, 1923, in Inez, Ky., she was a daughter of the late Shirley and Gladys Johnson Maynard. Also preceding her in death was her husband of 41 years, Calahan Maynard, in 1982; brother, Charles Preece, and a sister, Nevada Maynard.

Gwendolyn was a content homemaker who loved to sew and read, make bears and work puzzle books. She attended the Church of Christ in Catlettsburg and Flatwoods, Ky.

Mrs. Maynard leaves behind nine children, Daniel L. (Peggy) Maynard of Flatwoods, Robert E. Maynard of Logan County, Thomas (Linda) Maynard of Dublin, Ohio, Anita Louise Maynard of Columbus, Ohio, Lon Calvin (Peggy) Maynard of Catlettsburg, Sarah Marie (Paul) Bailey of Lacey, Wash., Della Rose (Terrance) Graham of Bean Station, Tenn., Calahan (Eva) Maynard Jr. of Sanford, N.C., and Eric David (Hildina) Maynard of Bonaire, Ga.; a brother, Shirley (Mabel) Maynard of Logan County, and a host of extended family and friends including J.C. Hughes, Roy Murphy and Jean Maynard.

Service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 30, at the Kilgore & Collier Funeral Home on Panola Street in Catlettsburg. Offering a message of comfort to family and friends will be Minister Waldo Booth. Final rest will be beside her late husband in Forest Lawn Cemetery at Pecks Mill.

Visitation for family and friends will be from 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
