McCONNELL — The AWANA Club of the First Baptist Church of McConnell has closed for this year. AWANA is a children’s program that teaches kids about God and His love.
AWANA begins each year in September coinciding with the public school calendar. The program is based on learning scripture and applying it to everyday life.
“This year was a banner year for the AWANA Club,” said Pastor John E. Godby. “There was a consistent group of children that attended and many grew spiritually through the Bible curriculum that was taught weekly.”
This year’s top award winners were Griffin Frye (Sparkie Division - kindergarten through second grade) and Ryan Blankenship (TNT Division - third through sixth grade).
Pastor Godby invites all area youth to consider attending AWANA Club next fall.
“We have AWANA on Monday evening from 6-8 so that children from other churches that do not have the program can attend,” said Godby. “AWANA is much like a spiritual scouting program. It is full of excitement and energy of the Lord for young people to enjoy. We have a dinner for the kids at the beginning, a game time, and much encouraging Bible lessons and stories. AWANA makes a difference in our youth program and it works.”
