Following investigations by the City of Logan Police Department, two additional allegations of purse snatchings were levied against David Randall Leake.

On May 24, Leake, 29, of Williamson, was charged with armed robbery and conspiracy by W.Va. Senior State Trooper J.K. Harris and Trooper M.A. Broadwater following an alleged purse snatching incident in the Lowe’s parking lot at Fountain Place Mall. Leake was jailed following arraignment at the Southwestern Regional Jail on a $50,000.

While incarcerated, Leake was served with warrants charging him with two additional purse snatchings that occurred on the Walmart parking lot at Fountain Place Mall.

One criminal complaint states that City of Logan patrolman Kevin Conley was the responding officer to an alleged purse snatching at Walmart. The victim, Stephanie Frye, stated to Conley that “a man jumped out of a blue Dodge Neon older car and grabbed my purse off my arm and knocked me down. I started screaming and chasing after them.”

Conley states that “two males and one female were in the suspect vehicle and headed north on 119.” At the time of the incident, the suspect vehicle was not located by officers.

Following further investigation, Conley determined that Leake was one of the males in the vehicle which fled after robbing the victim.

The other complaint states that City of Logan Patrolmen M.E. Dickerson and J.L. Sheppard responded to an alleged purse snatching on the Walmart parking lot on April 1, 2012. The victim, Shirley Welker, “stated that a male exited a blue Dodge Neon bearing West Virginia registration 7TP 176 and forcefully removed her purse from her shoulder, knocking her to the ground and then dragging her along the parking lot.”

After further investigation and reviewing video from Walmart, the officers learned that “David Randall Leake, along with co-defendants… did conspire to commit the stated act.”

A preliminary hearing was held before Magistrate Leonard Codispoti on Thursday where both victims, along with Officer Dickerson, testified and probable cause was found to bind Leake over to the Grand Jury. Leake’s bail remained at the amount of $50,000 which was previously set in the first case.
