Editor,

We, residents of Central City in the City of Logan, would like the mayor to step up and take charge of a real health risk we are now facing.

The health risk we are speaking of has to do with an old rundown, abandoned shack, which is completely overrun with rats.

This dilapidated structure has been abandoned for quite some time and due to the unbelievable filth covering up the floors it has been taken over by rats. These rats have, since mid-winter, been burrowing in our yards, invading our garages and have been running from under our porches.

Several of us have contacted the mayor concerning this rat invasion; however, the mayor has yet to take action. Why does this rat-infested shack continue to even stand? Why is it not on among the so called “abandoned dilapidated” structures which the city stated several months ago would be cleaned up?

The real story on why we the residents living among this infestation are being ignored is totally due to who the actual owner is. This owner of this rat infested structure happens to be a well-known person in the community. This is the real reason it remains!

I personally have had to contact an exterminator in order to get a handle on this situation. As of today (June 6), we have nine rat burrows in our yard. Extermination does not come cheap. It is an estimated $90 for just the rat poison.

Our mayor needs to stop playing favoritism and address this infestation immediately. The very own health of our children is at risk here.

Once again, we ask the mayor for intervention on our behalf. If time goes by and the mayor continues to play favoritism concerning this very serious matter, then we will indeed get WSAZ in on this to try to solve this rat-infested mess.

Afflicted resident of Central City,

Sam Doss
