FLORENCE EDWARDS

BEE, Va. – Florence Leah Viers Mattics Edwards, 94, of Bee, Va., formerly of Slagle, passed away Monday, June 11, 2012, in Norton Community Hospital at Norton, VA.

Born in Dickenson County, Va., she was a daughter of the late Noah and Elizabeth Deel Viers. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Felix Mattics; her second husband, Cecil Edwards; daughters, Sheryl Ann Mattics and Coral Sue Mattics Salome; son-in-law, Ed Opitz; brothers, Orbie Viers and Harden Viers; a sister, Carrie Viers Anderson and 4 infant siblings.

Florence was president of Friend Finders for several years, a past member of Haysi Rescue Squad, sold Tupperware for many years and an avid seamstress her whole life.

Survivors include daughters, Bettie (Lee) Mattics Fraley of Hudson, Ohio, and Donna Mattics Opitz of Parshell, Colo.; a son-in-law, Bob Salome of Beckley; 12 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 14, at Haysi Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Ketron Memorial Gardens at Lebanon, Va.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends after 10 a.m. Thursday to the funeral home.
