The West Virginia Dream AAU basketball team captured their fourth tournament title this spring in the Basketball Stars of America Battle of the Burgh tourney in Pittsburgh.
The Logan-based Dream went 4-0 in the event and advanced to the upcoming national tournament.
On the first day of the tourney it was lights out shooting from Kyra Cline to lead the team in wins against the Pittsburgh Freedom (57-35) and the Pittsburgh Pride (66-42). Cline had 22 and 20 points in those contest.
Cline was followed in scoring in the Freedom game by Monica Mitchell with 14 points and Kelsey Kirk’s 10. Chrissy Farmer, Kristin DesRocher and Hannah Tothe had five points each.
In the Pride game, Cline was followed in scoring by Mitchell with 10, while Kelsey Kirk had eight. Farmer, DesRocher and Tothe had six each.
Katie Kirk and Hannah Adkins had four and Adriana Hererra had two.
In the semifinals, the Dream beat the Pittsburgh Huskies, 49-46.
Tothe led the team with 14, followed by Mitchell with 11, Cline nine, DesRocher eight and Kelsey Kirk five. Adkins finished with two.
The Dream then beat the Allegheny Mountain Magic in the finals, 59-38.
Tothe led the team with 13 points. She was followed by DesRocher and Cline, who had 11 each. Mitchell had 10, Kelsey Kirk seven, Katie Kirk four and Adkins with three.
“The girls played great all weekend and I look forward to seeing what we can do in the Nationals,” Dream team coach Mike Tothe said. “We leave for the Nationals on June 26 and are currently taking donations and sponsoring a car wash on June 23 at Wendy’s of Logan. We would love to know that our community is behind us and we thank all those who have helped us to this point.”
The Dream currently has a 30-7 record this season.
“We have a great group of young ladies who are currently 30-7 with 4 tourney titles, 1 second place and 1 third place finish in 10 tournaments this spring,” Coach Tothe said. “If you are interested in supporting our team our buying a car wash ticket please see one of the girls or myself.”
The USBA National Tourney runs June 27-30 in North Myrtle Beach, S.C.
