Two local women were arrested for allegedly shoplifting from Walmart in unrelated incidents.

• Brandi Michelle Hayes, 25, of Lake, was arrested by Sgt. D.A. White and Patrolman Artie Willis of the Logan Police Department for shoplifting and driving on a revoked license charges on Jan. 29.

According to police reports, on Jan. 29, at 5:35 p.m., Hayes was apprehended by a Walmart loss prevention employee "after selecting, concealing and removing approximately $34.32 worth of merchandise without paying for said merchandise."

"This officer ran a computer check and the defendant's license to drive was revoked for DUI," the report states. "The defendant did drive a 1999 Pontiac Grand Prix to Walmart and did commit the offense of shoplifting.”

Hayes was placed under arrest for first offense shoplifting and driving on a revoked license for DUI.

Hayes was booked at the Southwestern Regional Jail at Holden at 8:15 p.m. Friday, and, during her arraignment, she told Magistrate Dwight Williamson she was unaware her license had been revoked after the DUI charge had been dismissed. Williamson said the Department of Motor Vehicles had revoked her license anyway.

Williamson then told Hayes she would have to go to the DMV to get her license back, even though the September 2008 case had been dismissed, and explained she faced a possible $250 fine — plus a fine of twice the amount of the stolen merchandise and $162.50 in court costs.

• Kathy Regina Gibson, 58, of Lyburn was arrested by Patrolman Artie Willis of the Logan PD for second offense shoplifting on Jan. 31.

According to police reports, the officer responded to a call from Walmart in reference to a shoplifting incident.

"When arriving on the scene, this officer was advised by Walmart Loss Prevention that (Gibson) did conceal a $6.97 box of hair dye in her jacket and left the store without paying for it. Upon further investigation, this officer found that the defendant had one prior shoplifting conviction on May 27, 1998.”

Gibson was booked at the regional jail at 6:30 p.m.
