WEST LOGAN, W.Va. — Samuel Edward Baker, 83, of West Logan, passed away unexpectedly in Roanoke, Va., Friday, June 15, 2012.

Eddie was a good man and a loving husband to his wife, Geneva, who preceded him in death. He was a wonderful father to his children, Paul Edward “Bubby” Baker, who preceded him in death, Catherine Lynn McMichael of Herndon, Va., Rosetta Baker Lane, of Pfafftown, N.C., and Dottie Sue Baker of West Logan. Eddie was a good friend to his sons-in-law, William Victor McMichael, and William Earl Lane. He was a friend and a great Paw Paw to his grandchildren, Rebecca Lane (Erick) Smitherman, Timothy Edward (Yoko) McMichael, and David Morton (Catherine) Lane. He loved seeing and playing with his beautiful great-grandchildren, Luca Edward McMichael, Nica Dash McMichael, and Georgia Kate Lane.

Eddie was the son of Samuel Paul Baker and Rosa Etta Baker and was born on June 14, 1929 in Logan. He was a strong and loving brother to James Brumley Baker, Jack Arnold Baker, Rosa Pauline Baker Tomblin, Homer Eugene Baker of Logan, Hazel Marie Baker Helphinstine, Dorothy Baker Meade, and his youngest sister, Joan Elaine Baker Boyd, of Pfafftown, North Carolina.

Eddie leaves behind many good friends, in addition to his family, who will miss his easy smile, his good nature, and friendly conversation. His dog, Vincent, will miss the touch of his hand and the occasional bologna. He will be terribly missed.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 22, at James Funeral Home with Rev. Joaquine Ooten officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Memory Gardens at Godby.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
