A Logan woman racked up a long list of charges following an altercation with City of Logan Patrolman M.E. Dickerson on Sunday.
Angela Denise Bunting, 40, of Logan, was charged with brandishing a deadly weapon x3, assault during the commission of a felony, unlawful assault on a police officer, obstructing x2, public intoxication, possession with the intent to deliver x3 and contraband into jail.
According to the criminal complaint filed in magistrate’s court, Dickerson responded to a call to Charles Street in reference to a “partially nude female with a knife.” Dickersons notes on the complaint that upon arrival, he allegedly “observed a white female standing in front of stated location with no shirt or bra on and holding a kitchen knife in close relation to three males in an aggressive manner.”
Dickerson states that he “exited his cruiser and ordered the female, identified as Angela Denise Bunting, to drop the knife numerous times. Bunting failed to comply with the command given and told this officer to, “shoot me”. Bunting did not attempt to attack this officer at that time and verbal commands were given which Bunting failed to comply with Dickerson’s order and after aprox: five (5) minutes this officer removed the cap stun from the holster and Bunting began to retreat.”
Dicerson “administered a one (1) second burst of cap stun to Bunting’s facial area and she continued to retreat still holding the knife and refusing to release it. This officer then followed Bunting a gave a second burst of cap stun to the facial area with little result. A third burst of cap stun was administered and Bunting then turned her back to this officer and was forcefully taken to the ground where she attempted to stab this officer three (3) times and was again ordered to release the weapon.”
Dickerson states that he endured aproximately two minutes of physical altercation before he was able to remove the stated weapon from Bunting’s control and place her into custody.
Bunting was transported to the Emergency Room at Logan Regional Medical Center (LRMC) via ambulance and “evaluated for injuries received before this officer’s arrival and during the physical altercation.”
Upon release from LRMC, Dickerson transported Bunting to the Logan Police Department for processing and then to the Southwestern Regional Jail (SWRJ).
Upon arrival at SWRJ, Bunting was taken into a secured room for a strip search by SWRJ personnel at which time a “white shopping bag was located in Bunting’s crotch area which contained one hundred twenty eight dollars ($128.00) along with twenty (20) white round pills identified by Rite Aid pharmacist as Atarax (Non Schedule), fifty five (55) green oblong pills identified as Lorcet 10 mg. (Schedule III) and twelve (12) blue round pills identified as Klonipin 1 mg. (Schedule IV).”
Dickerson then “attempted to fingerprint Bunting at which time she became combative and was physically restrained by this officer and placed into a holding cell.” Bunting refused any further processing by Dickerson and SWRJ personnel.
The complaint states that “Bunting also made the spontaneous utterance that she… had consumed an unknown quantity of “pain pills” prior to initial call.”
Bunting is being held in SWRJ on a $50,000 bond.
