Footing the bill

Editor,

According to NBC News, President Obama has pledged to support Afghanistan after U.S. and NATO troops pull out of that country at the end of 2014. He has also pledge to rebuild that country, and train its military and police.

My question is why should American taxpayers have to foot the bill to rebuild a country that was in horrible condition before we became involved there to begin with? When will taxpayers get a break? It makes me so angry when Hillary Clinton and Obama keep pledging to spend borrowed money on people who do not like us to start with. The president is supposed to be worth ten million dollars. If he’s so concerned about rebuilding Afghanistan, why dosen’t he spend his own money? I still think we should take their checkbook.

The Route 10 Road Committee has been trying to obtain funding to build a decent highway from Man to Logan for over 14 years now. Every time we ask for funding, they usually tell us there is no money available. What burns me up is they will have no trouble finding money to build four lane highways in Afghanistan. For what, donkey carts? Camel races?

I just wonder how much of the money we send to Afghanistan ends up in a Swiss bank account. I often hear about how corrupt the Karzai government is. Now I’ve been hearing that Pakistan is demanding more money from us for providing supply routes through their country. It’s all stacking up to become another financial disaster for this country.

It’s no different than U.S. dollars being spent in Iraq to rebuild that country with all the oil revenue they have there. I say let them start from scratch, like early Americans did. “Stupid is, as stupid does”.

Thanks, once again, for allowing me to express my opinions. Dosveedonyah!

They are not getting a free ride and the U.S. is not alone in their help and/or support for them. U.S.troops will be pulled out on schedule. NATO countries are trying to help/assist the Afghans in taking care of themselves as well as protect themselves.

Several NATO countries have already pledged their financial support (Britain and Australian announced their support just recently) for years to come to help Afghanistan, and the Afghanistan government has also said they will kick in millions as well.

This is not just a U.S. effort. Non-NATO countries have been invited to an upcoming summit in hopes that they too will help.

The U.S. rebuilt Gernmany after WW II and until recently I had a big problem with that. But, untimately it helped the U.S. with European trade.

Some times things are not as dismall as you may think or near as bad.

Some News Agencies do not report all the facts. I don't know if they leave things out deliberately or not.

I wouldn't give that country another dime. We can't afford this anymore.
