Nine years old — Celebrating her ninth birthday on February 12, 2009, will be Ariel Marie Kestel of Canton, Ohio. Ariel is the daughter of Matthew Aaron and Julia Mae Thompson Kestel. Ariel is the granddaughter of Gary and Paula Kestel of Canton and John and Edna Thompson of Harts. She is a third grade honor student at Reedurban Elementary School and a member of the talented and gifted class. Ariel attends the Massilon Church of Christ.
Two years old — Sonnet Rose Napier celebrated her second birthday on December 21, 2008, at the home of her parents, Thomas and Lavetta Napier of Mineral Wells in Wood County, formerly of Logan. An earlier celebration of Sonnet’s birthday was held August 17. This event, referred to as "Girl Day," is held in recognition of the date the family found out that "It's a girl." This event is held annually to provide Sonnet with a distinct day reserved for the observance of her birth and thus better separating it from the celebration of Christmas. Both celebrations were held at her home and had a Mickey Mouse theme. Sonnet is the granddaughter of James "Jimmy" and Marlene Hale Compton of Switzer and Ed and Wanda Napier of Chapmanville. Attending or sending gifts were Sonnet's great-grandmothers, Glenna Hale of West Logan, Edna Napier of Chapmanville, Velma Compton of Switzer and Joanne Cole of Lavalette. Others attending or sending gifts were her four year old brother, Wyatt James; Kevin and Jerri Compton of Ashland, Ky., and Christina Napier of Pecks Mill, the much loved aunts and uncle of the honoree; Kevin, Brandi, Ashtyn, and Kyler Ellerton of Billings, Mont.; Mary Rush of Frederick, Md.; and Gary Pennington of Parkersburg. Sonnet is also the great-granddaughter of the late A.M. "Mitch" Hale, the late Cletis Napier, the late Jack Compton and the late Auvil Cole.
One year old — James Charles Epperly, the son of James and Stacie Epperly of Stowe, was honored with a Number One Teddy Bear themed birthday party at the Man Fire Pit Restaurant in Man with a host of friends and family attending. Born at 4:44 a.m. October 5, 2007, at Logan Regional Medical Center, James weighed 7 pounds, 6 ounces and was 21.5 inches long. He was greeted by his big sister, Jaime Lynn. James is the grandson of Charles and Treasa Urconis of Elk Creek and Teeny and Debbie Epperly of Robinette. He is the great-grandson of James and Arb Justice of Verner, Donald and Eunice Bragg and Arbie and Marg Adkins, all of Amherstdale and the late Howard and Beulah Epperly. He is also the nephew of Jaime Urconis of Elk Creek.
