With President Barack Obama continuing to insist his plan to revive the economy is working, West Virginians have received evidence to the contrary. In May, the state’s unemployment rate was 7.3 percent - up two-fifths of a point from April.

Our state suffered a net loss of 1,900 jobs during the month. And, despite claims Obama’s war against coal is not hurting that industry, the biggest single-sector job loss was in mining and logging, with a drop of 1,400 in employment.

In fact, the total number of mining and logging jobs has declined by about 2,100 since last May, according to WorkForce West Virginia.

Liberals in our state continue to insist West Virginians should support Obama. With unemployment climbing, the obvious question is: Why?
