Man and Mullens Little League players recite the Little League Pledge at this week’s 9-10 District 2 tourney.

It was a good day for the Man 9-10-year-old Little League All-Star team on Sunday.

Man beat the heat and shut out Mullens 1-0 in the District 2 Tournament, which was held at its own Man Little League Field in Man.

Man pitcher Sam Milton singled and scored the only run of the game in the third inning.

Dillon Privett singled and pitched the win for Man. Casey Hurley had a double, while Brock Muncy also had a single.

Mullens didn’t have much luck at the plate against Privett, striking out 11 times and getting only a pair of singles from McQuade Canada.

Privette fired 5.1 innings on the mound before maxing out on his pitch count. He allowed no runs and two hits while striking out nine and walking two.

The tournament only had five teams in the field with Chapmanville, Tug Valley and Madison also participating.

Chapmanville went 0-2 in the tourney to get eliminated.

Chapmanville lost 5-4 to Tug Valley last Saturday and were ousted on Sunday with a 3-0 shutout loss to Madison.

In Saturday’s loss to Tug Valley, Chase Berry pitched and singled for Chapmanville. Dylan McCormick had two hits with a double and a single. Isaac Dixon singled twice, while Trey Pancake also had a single.

Chapmanville scored four runs in the first inning before Tug Valley plated two in the third and three in the fourth to notch the win.

Sammy Ferris was the starting and winning pitcher for Tug Valley.

Both team’s pitching staffs had a great day as Chapmanville and TV each recorded 11 strikeouts in the game. Chapmanville, however, issued six walks and hit one batter.

Tug Valley was led at the plate by Ethan Varney and Adam Rahe, who had two hits apiece. One of Rahe’s hits was a double. Austin Rahe also doubled for Tug Valley.

In Sunday’s game, Madison pitcher D.L. Bowman hurled a no-hitter as he struck out 11 and allowed no runs and no walks as he led his team to a 3-0 win over Chapmanville.

Chapmanville had just two base runners as both reached via error.

Madison scored all three of its runs in the sixth inning. Bailey Adkins, Caleb Harvey, Jeremy Malcomb and Evan Sayre all had singles for Madison.

Chapmanville pitcher Pancake fired six scoreless innings before he had to be taken out after maxing out on his pitch count.

In Saturday’s other game, Mullens defeated Madison 14-4.
