OMAR, W.Va. — Rex “Jimmy” S. Backus, 61, of Omar, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ Friday, June 29, 2012, at CAMC Memorial Division Hospital in Charleston.
Born March 21, 1951, at Gilbert, he was a son of the late Jonathan “Bud” and Sadie Fields Backus. Also preceding him in death was one brother, Ralph Backus.
Rex was a retired coal miner and of the Christian faith. He was also an inactive member of the Omar Area Crime Watch.
Survivors include his loving wife of 41 years, Dorothy Brown Backus; one son, Scott A. (Peggy) Backus of Omar; two sisters, Loretta (Charles) Clark of East Bank and Lorene McComas of Lundale; two grandchildren, Andrew Scott Backus and Alexis Paige Backus, and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. today, July 6, at Monahill Freewill Baptist Church with Rev. Johnny Toler officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Memory Gardens at Godby. Pallbearers will be family members and friends.
Visitation will begin one hour prior to services today at the church.
