ARACOMA, W.Va. — Mrs. Annie Verzetta Coleman, 73, of Aracoma, Logan, passed away Friday, June 29, 2012, at Logan Regional Medical Center.

Born April 12, 1939, at Holden Hospital, she was a daughter of the late Floyd and Creola Wilson Cowan. Also preceding her in death was one daughter, Melissa; two sons, Jeffrey and Dewayne; one sister, Ernestine Holmes, and two brothers, Floyd Jr. and Rickey Cowan.

Mrs. Coleman was a graduate of the former Aracoma High School. She was a member of the former Greater St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church of Logan. For many years she was employed as an elevator operator at the White and Browning Building, where she was affectionately known as “the elevator lady”. She was a seamstress and her hobbies were arts and crafts and singing. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.

Those who will cherish her memory include one sister, Linda Jean of Aracoma; “brother” Donald (Constance) Calloway of Indianapolis, Ind.; three sons, Harlan Coleman of Charleston, Charles (Tonia) Coleman of Franklin, and Troy (Debbie) Copley of Clendenin; five daughters, Linda Sue Williams of Huntington, Thelma EllaJean and Alvernita Coleman, both of Aracoma, Tracey LaShawn Coleman of Charlotte, N.C., and Latisha Holmes of Cleveland, Ohio; five granddaughters; five grandsons; nieces, nephews, and other extended family; special relatives, Allen Lee White of Winston Salem, N.C., Denise Camphor of California, and Barbara Brown of Salisbury, N.C.; and many friends.

Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday, July 6, at Greater Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church at Holden with Rev. Barney Goins, assisted by Rev. Gerald Dotson, officiating. She will be laid to rest at Forest Lawn Cemetery at Pecks Mill.

Visitation will begin one prior to services Friday at the church.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Verzetta Coleman Fund, c/o United Bank in Aracoma.

Pond Funeral Home of Aracoma is in charge of arrangements.
