JOYCE BROWNING
CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Joyce Anne Pierson Browning, 66, of Charleston, entered into the glories of Heaven in the arms of her Savior Jesus Christ Saturday, July 7, 2012 after a short and courageous battle with brain cancer.
She was a devout follower of Christ, bearing His testimony at an early age, a member of Bible Center Church and a devoted wife and mother. She was a graduate of Stonewall Jackson High School (’64) and West Virginia State College (’68) with a degree in Vocational Home Economics. She was employed by Appalachian Power Company in Logan, substitute teacher at Chapmanville High School as well as a teacher’s aide at Bible Center School. Joyce was also a church secretary at Faith Independent Baptist Church in Logan.
Joyce portrayed the wife of the 16th President, Mary Todd Lincoln at Civil War Reenactments in W.Va. for more than 16 years. She sewed her own elaborate costumes and accessories while giving wonderful educational performances that honored her skills and her Lord. Most of all Joyce was known for her servant life that never stopped. Joyce was a vital member of the Bible Center Care Ministry, touching more lives with meals and cards than she was aware of. She was supportive of her family in all their endeavors, taking time to pray and make a difference that left a permanent impression. She could do or fix anything. She had a contagious smile that would brighten any situation. She was well known for her love of Christmas. Joyce spent nearly her entire life taking care of others who were ill, not for recognition but to honor the Lord.
Preceding her in death was an unborn baby; her husband of 24 years, Larry Paul Browning of Logan, and father, James Ralph Pierson.
Survivors include her mother, Virginia Pierson; one son, Jonathan Browning, and many wonderful cousins who were like siblings to her.
Special expressions of gratitude are given to the members of Bible Center Church who brought food and helped in other many ways, nurses of CAMC, Hospice, and David, Evelyn, Jackie, Peggy, Debbie, Phoebe, Nancy, Jeanie, Loretta, Anna and Mary.
Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 11, at the Bible Center Church, Southridge Campus, with Pastor David Jones and Pastor James Bledsoe officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery at Pecks Mill.
Visitation will begin two hours prior to services Wednesday at the church.
