EVELYN THACKER
ROANOKE, Va. — Evelyn Thacker, 90, formerly of Logan, went to be with her Lord Monday, July 9, 2012, at Roanoke Memorial Hospital in Roanoke, Va.
Born October 25, 1921, in Wayne County, she was a daughter of the late Thomas “Tom” and Elsie Ferguson Hill. Evelyn married Lawrence Thacker the” Love of her Life “on August 30, 1941 in Pikeville, Ky. Lawrence preceded her in death November 1988. Also preceding her in death were sisters, Alice Jones and Loeta Ferguson; a brother, Charles Hill; grandsons, Roger Stallard Jr., Ralph Thacker Jr., and Justin Thacker and granddaughter, Kelly Adkins.
Evelyn was a homemaker and enjoyed sewing and her many flower gardens thru the years. When she became unable to do those things her joy came from phone calls and visits from her children. She would spend hours listening to her gospel music and her TV game shows.
Evelyn has six children, all whom survive: Lawrence (Kathy) Thacker of Maryville, Tn., Joyce (Everett) Allen of Ringgold, Ga., Gail (Rich) George and Ralph Thacker, both of Montvale, Va., Violet (Richard) Gorsuch of Farmersville, Texas, and Linda (Russ) Whittington of Geneva, Ala.; three brothers, Man Hill, Dale Hill (Ann) and Butch Hill (Linda); two sisters, Aggie Mills and Donna (Leo) Rowe; 18 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, July 13, at Morris Funeral Home Chapel with her grandson, David Hill, officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Memorial Gardens at Godby.
Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
