It was a rough ride for the Man 9-10-year-old Little League All-Stars.

After recently winning the District 2 championship on its home field, Man traveled to Moorefield this week and went 0-2 in the state tournament.

Man played in three-team Group B, falling last Friday 10-7 to Hurricane and then getting eliminated on Sunday with a 15-5 defeat at the hands of Ceredo-Kenova.

Hurricane was declared the pool champion with an 11-1 win over C-K last Saturday. Both Hurricane and C-K advanced to the state quarterfinals.

Hurricane was beaten 11-6 on Monday in one of the four quarterfinal contests. Ceredo-Kenova was ousted 10-4 by Bridgeport. Also in the quarterfinals, Martinsburg downed Shady Spring 23-4 and Moorefield won 7-3 over Mullens.

Martinsburg advanced to Wednesday night’s state championship game against Bridgeport after crushing Mountaineer 20-1. Brideport also had a smashing semifinal victory with a 17-0 whitewash over homestanding Moorefield.

Mullens, the District 2 runner-up behind Man, advanced to the state quarterfinals with a 2-1 showing in pool play. Playing in Pool A, Mullens lost 11-1 to Martinsburg in the opener last Friday, but bounced back to score wins over Barboursville (4-2) and Worthington (5-4).

Bridgeport cruised in Pool C with a 3-0 win after downing Mountaineer (9-8), Elkins (14-0) and Central Greenbrier (15-0).
