Chapmanville 11-12s get tough state tourney draw

It was a tough state tournament draw for the Chapmanville 11-12-year-old Little League All-Stars.

Chapmanville, which went 2-1 in recent District 2 pool play at Pineville and was the runner-up to Madison, is scheduled to open the 14-team state tournament on Friday at 5 p.m. against Bi-State, a team located in the eastern panhandle region.

Also in Chapmanville’s Pool A is state powerhouse Bridgeport as well as Lavelette from nearby Wayne County.

After taking on Bi-State, Chapmanville is scheduled to take on Lavelette on Saturday at 1 p.m. The finale of pool play is set for Sunday at noon against Bridgeport.

Group A pool play action is set to begin on Friday with a noon contest between Bridgeport and Lavelette. Also on Saturday, Bi-State battles with Bridgeport at 3:30 p.m. The other pool play game on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. pits Bi-State against Lavelette.

Second-round games are then scheduled to begin on Monday with the semifinals and finals to follow.

The winner of the 11-12 state tourney is slated to advance to the South Regionals in Georgia.

Madison is in three-team Pool B with state powerhouse Barboursville and St. Albans.

Madison opens the state tournye on Friday at 2:30 p.m. against St. Albans. Barboursville and St. Albans then meet on Saturday at 5 p.m. The final pool play game is then slated for Sunday at 1 p.m. with the Barboursville-Madison contest.

In Pool C are South Charleston, Braxton County, Shady Spring and Shinnston.

South Charleston and Shinnston are set to meet on Friday at 1 p.m. with the Braxton County-Shady Spring contest to follow at 3:30 p.m.

On Saturday in Group C, Shady Spring-South Charleston and Shinnston-Braxton County are the games which are scheduled for noon and 2:30 p.m. respectively.

Then on Sunday, South Charleston plays Braxton County at 5 p.m. and Shady Spring battles with Shinnston at 7:30.

In Group D, Elkins, Beckley and Morgan County are the participants.

Elkins plays Morgan County on Friday at 7:30 p.m. in the pool play opener. Morgan County locks horns with Elkins on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. Then on Sunday at 3:30 p.m., Elkins is set to play Beckley.

The state quarterfinals are set to begin on Monday. The Pool A winner plays the Pool D runner-up at 7:30 p.m. The Pool B winner battles with the Pool C runner-up at noon. At 2:30 p.m., the Pool C champion is set to take on the runner-up in Pool B. The other quarterfinal pits the Pool D winner against the Pool A runner-up at 5 p.m.

The state semi-finals are slated for Tuesday, July 24 at 5 and 7:30 p.m.

The state championship game is scheduled to be played on Wednesday, July 25 at 6 p.m.
