Chief Probation Officer Charles Brown told the Logan Banner that there is some big news on the horizon in the local counter-drug scene.

Brown was honored by his coworkers and court officials on Tuesday for outstanding scores on job related certification testing and told the Logan Banner about progress towards Logan's own drug court and the next phase for the PIECES anti-drug coalition.

"We signed the contract yesterday with the CW Network to start airing adds on local cable television," Brown said. "So you will start seeing PIECES presence on television."

Brown said their will be a special meeting on Jan. 23 at 10:30 a.m. at the Earl Ray Tomblin Convention Center to discuss the regional drug court concept.

"All the judges will be there along with court officials and representatives from the West Virginia Bar association," Brown said.

Prior to that, Brown said there will be a meeting in Pike County Kentucky to address the Drug Court programs.

Both projects are close to Brown's heart. As a Probation Officer, Brown did the initial report many years ago which revealed that around 90 percent of the arrests in Logan County revolved around drug and alcohol abuse. Brown was a founding member of the PIECES drug prevention coalition which formed out of a series of public meetings about how to combat drugs.

Brown was also in on the ground floor of the Drug Court project which is currently up and running in one neighboring county.
