Daniels celebrates 90th birthday — Laurabelle Daniels of Pineville celebrated her 90th birthday with a party held at the Pineville Church of God on Saturday, January 31, 2009. Hosting the event were her children, Dilmeda (Bill) Weston; John (Marlene) Daniels and Thomas (Lynell) Daniels, all of Pineville; grandchildren, Morris (Sherri) Pettus and Nikki Daniels, both of Pineville, and Tara (Scott) Barnett of Mt Sterling, Ky., and great-grandchildren, Amanda, Lori and Holly Pettus of Pineville and Meyrick and Jennilee Barnett of Mt Sterling Ky. Laurabelle is the widow of Dilmer Thomas Daniels, who work for the C&P Telephone Company, and the daughter of the late Opie and Mary Pridemore of Garrett Fork. A resident of Wyoming County for 68 years, she lived in Mullens before moving to Pineville. Decorations of red and white were used throughout the room. Prizes were awarded to Judy Sizemore, Brittany Ogle, Sandy Lusk, Sherri Pettus, Vera Basham, and John Daniels. Treats were given to the children attending the party. Introducing — Kayleigh Gail Laxton was born December 28, 2008, weighing 7 pounds, 6 ounces. She is the daughter of Lisa Canterbury and Josh Laxton and the first granddaughter of Rindy and Reda Canterbury of Crown and Allen and Pam Laxton of Lynco. She is a special niece of Rindy Jr., Angel and Lori Canterbury and Mikey and Maryann Cline. Her great-grandmother is Bonnie Paynter of Crown.

Shelton-Welch to wed February 21 — Dallas and Rebecca Frye of Verdunville are pleased to announce the forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Michelle Renee Shelton, to Joshua Allen Welch of Whitman. The bride-elect is the granddaughter of the late Harmon and Florence Frye of Verdunville and the late Bob and Nannie Workman of Stollings. Michelle is a 1999 graduate of Logan High School and a 2001 graduate of Mountaineer Beauty College in St. Albans. She is employed with Styles Unlimited. The prospective groom is the son of John H. Jr. and Sandra Welch of Whitman and the grandson of the late John H. and Laura Pearl Welch and the late Bill and Angel Carroll, all of Whitman. Josh is a 2005 graduate of Logan High School and attended Fairmont State University and Southern West Virginia Community and Technical College. He is employed with Edge Coal Company in Boone County. The couple will exchange vows at 5 p.m. Saturday, February 21, at the Verdunville Church of God with their pastor, Rev. Michael Hartwell, performing the ceremony. A reception will immediately follow at Logan Middle School. Following a honeymoon in Tennessee, the couple will make their home at Verdunville.

Couple to wed Saturday, Feb. 22 — Stephanie Gent and Allen Thorne would like to announce their engagement and forthcoming marriage. The couple will be joined in matrimony at 2 p.m. Sunday, February 22, at the Logan Plaza Lanes Bowling Alley. Stephanie is the mother of Jason McCloud and Ashleigh Preece and Allen is the father of Whitney and Katlin Thorne. The gracious custom of an open ceremony will be observed.
