Busy weekend for Logan County
It won’t be hard finding something to do this weekend in Logan County. Activities abound with a car and bike show, sporting and fishing expo and Logan County’s own love story.
— The Cory “Bird” Price Memorial Car Show, Motorcycle Show, and Memorial Bike Ride will be held Saturday, July 28, at the Chapmanville Municipal Building. The event is being held to raise funds for the Cory “Bird” Price Scholarship.
Registration for the shows will be 10 a.m.-noon. Entry fee is $15. The Car and Bike Show will begin at noon.
The Memorial Ride line up will begin at 2:30. There will also be live music provided by the band Sweetwater, awards and door prizes.
— The 2nd Annual Chief Logan Hunting and Fishing Expo will be held Friday and Saturday at the Chief Logan Lodge and Convention Center.
Events and personalities include:
• Frank Addington Jr., also known as “The Aspirin Buster.” Addington, with his unique style of “bow and arrow razzle dazzle,” will shoot a baby aspirin from mid air — from behind his back.
• Chris Walls, world champion turkey caller
• “Birds of Prey” presented by the West Virginia Raptor Rehabilitation Center
• A Turkey Calling Contest with Master of Ceremonies Chris Walls
• Air Rifle Shooting Range
• Youth Challenge presented by the West Virginia Division of Natural Resources
• Bird Dog Demonstrations with outdoors columnist Bob Fala
• Hawg Trough
• Fishing Pond for Children
• Archery Contest
Hours are Saturday from 9 a.m.-7 p.m. and Sunday from 10:30 a.m.-4 p.m. Tickets, which can be purchased at the gate, are $5 for adults and children age 6 and older. The first 500 children will get in free, courtesy of Gatti’s Pizza at the Fountain Place Mall.
The National Wild Turkey Federation-Sanctioned Turkey Calling Contest will be held Saturday with registration starting at 10 a.m. (pre-registration is allowed). A callers meeting will be held at 1 p.m. and the calling begins at 2 p.m. All callers can participate in this division. Friction Division: Callers will use a friction call; Youth Division: Children 15 and under only, and Owl Hoot: Anyone can participate. For more information, contact Roger Wolfe 304-687-1713
Leading the event will be Chris Walls, World and two-time Grand National Turkey Calling Champion, Outdoor videographer with many hunting and turkey calling demonstrations and tutorials.

— The Aracoma Story performances will be available until Sunday, July 29, at the Liz Spurlock Amphitheatre at Chief Logan State Park. Tickets are $12 for adults, $10 for seniors and $8 for children ages 3-12. The Aracoma Story Inc. final summer performance will be Winnie the Pooh, which will run from July 31-August 12.
